I was born in Bolton, Lancashire, though I have lived most of my life on the border of Hertfordshire & Bedfordshire. My very early years were spent living on a farm which had a strong impact on my life.

My parents met at art college and both followed careers involving their creative talents. My brother and I were bound to follow in their footsteps as we grew up with an endless supply of art materials to hand.

As I grew up I realised that art and design were where my talents lay. My high school art teacher once said to me "Oh Millie you're such a romantic". From her exasperated tone I don't think it was meant as a compliment (however true). Nevertheless it has proved to be a useful trait over the years.

I have been lucky enough to work at a variety of creative jobs gaining a wide range of skills, experience and most of all confidence. From humble paste-up artist to computer retouching, 3D modeling and animation for several blue-chip companies. I returned to my first love painting after having two children and settling them at school.

I have always been drawn to the natural environment, but not the usual every day views and landscapes. I find beauty in the smaller and often unnoticed scenes, things that you need to take time to study and understand. My inspiration is provoked by patterns in nature, depth of field, the play of light and shadow, and the interaction of colours.

Most of my work has been in acrylic paint. I enjoy it's ease of use and the speed at which I can work, but recently I have been experimenting with oils. Although a completely different way of working it actually suits my style and I have been pleased with the results.

Having recently moved to an old house on the banks of the river Great Ouse in north Bedfordshire I have not had as much time as I would like to paint. Every day though, I am filled with inspiration in my immediate surroundings from the plants, animals and insects in the garden to the reflections on the lake at the local nature reserve. I always take a good camera with me wherever I go and have compiled many valuable images, enough to keep me painting for at least the next ten years.
